Name: Mary McIntyre on Jul 27, 2008Comments: WF should be one of the towns that leads the way for others. I find other people's dogs more of a nuisance, they poop, bark, growl, and can bite children...yet they do not have to get neighbor permission! Please change the ordinance.Flag

Name: Susan Mary Westfall on Aug 8, 2008Comments: I grew up in Martinsville, Virgnia and lived on a very prestigious street next door to a beautiful house built with bricks that dated back to the War Between the States. The owner of the house, Dr. McCabe, was an elderly gentleman who had a good sized chicken pen and coop in his backyard. He taught me how to call his chickens, feed his chicken, and collect eggs. Talk about happy memories!! I spent hours in that chicken pen, and can call a chicken better than anyone I know. I think the idea of a movable pen or small chicken pen is great!! What a wonderful experience for children to grow up caring for chickens, and collecting eggs. Plus, you have the advantage of the fertilizer from the chicken poop. Believe me, I am sure the chicken poop is a lot less contaminating than all the dog poop where I live. I can't walk outside my townhouse without having to watch where I step. Signs have been posted by the health department regarding all the dog poop, and people just don't care--dare I mention how much dog urine flows into the ground everyday!!! Or how about people in these big homes who let their dogs out in their fenced-in backyards, and don't scoop the dog poop. Now there's a foul smell on a hot sunny day. So I say yeah, bring on the chickens--they're adorable and they don't bark!!Flag

Name: Jewett Alley on Aug 10, 2008Comments: I would certainly rather my neighbors had a few chickens instead of noisy, barking dogs. chickens do not bite or use other people's yard as a potty. As a child I loved each of our chickens. I would put them in my doll carraige and roll them around the yard. I sure considered them pets. They eat ticks and bugs, make fertilizer and produce food; what more could anyone want.Flag

Name: Tammy S on Aug 21, 2008Comments: I think getting eggs would be great! It would also be a great learning experience for the kids. Nothing is wrong with just a few chickens. There shouldn't be much smell or noise with just a few hens.Flag

Name: L White on Aug 22, 2008Comments: This is a prime opportunity for the Town of WF to help its citizens in a small way with the rising cost of providing food for the family. It would also be family learning/bonding experience. Might want to create a "Chicken Hot Line" for the inexperienced to get "How To" information :) Wouldn't want the chickens treated in a inhuman manner.Flag

Name: Anonymous on Apr 10, 2010Comments: way to go! I am currently trying to get the covenants in my neighborhood changed. we are all on 2 acre lots but there are some neighbors that are definitely against us. anything you can share with me would be appreciated. neighbors have voiced concerns about noise, (although we've proposed no more than 10 hens, no roosters), smell, and pests/predators. So far, they haven't said anything about avian flu - but that's probably next on their list. anything you can offer is much appreciated! TrishFlag
