Name: Anonymous on Oct 14, 2012Comments: I think this is absolutely disgusting that these teachers are expected to take a pay cut. My children have music lessons and the teachers do a terrific job and as far as i am concerned go over and above what is expected of them. They deserve every penny that they are currently being paid.Flag

Name: Claire Varey on Oct 14, 2012Comments: I think that this is a very bad idea to down grade these professionals. Just another example of how little respect and value is placed on people. Soon there will be no services left in the district and that will be unfortunate for those children who wont have the opportunity to learn a musical instrument, as no one will be willing to teach. More cuts, at what cost?Flag

Name: Judith Rhodes on Oct 15, 2012Comments: You cannot take away the recognisition of the qualification of current staff and the long term investment they have made into their pension, which this action would also remove. This action will reduce the quality of staff employed and therefore the quality of the Music Service as a whole. A very negative action with no consideration for our children's future.Flag

Name: R C Grant on Oct 15, 2012Comments: This proposal is grossly unfair on these professionally qualified teachers and if supported and enacted by Wakefield MDC, will result in the loss of talented teachers and the eventual demise of the music service. It is also suggests that Wakefield MDC is not prepared to invest in the education of children, and that Wakefield MDC does not recognise and reward the hard work and commitment required to obtain professional teaching qualifications, or in delivering exceptional extracurricular activities.Flag

Name: Dave Clark on Oct 15, 2012Comments: This would be a dreadful move both to the individuals concerned and the quality of the music provision in the district. Wakefield Music Services have been for so many years a precious jewel in the area with a national reputation for offering high quality musical provision in school and outside of it. At a time when the spirits of our young people are in so much need of joy and hope and inspiration anything that could undermine this or put this wonderful service in jeopardy must be questioned and challenged. Philip Pullman once said that arts provision to the young was so important that 'it should be protected under human rights legislation'. This decision, should it go ahead, would have a devastating impact upon that provision. I oppose it wholeheartedly.Flag

Name: Anonymous on Oct 15, 2012Comments: I think this decision is a wholy unjustifiable and unfair measure taken without thought to the individual, and with far-reaching, perhaps dire consequences to the future of music in our region. We must not allow this to happen, I and many others are proud of our city and its musicians and I implore on their behalf for the council to stop their action.Flag

Name: Carol Vickers on Oct 15, 2012Comments: I wouldn't expect qualified lawyers to accept the terms, status and salary of a paralegal, anymore than I would expect a qualified doctor or nurse to accept being demoted to a healthcare assistant. It is completely unacceptable that demotion is being used as a way to avoid paying qualified teachers redundancy, which is what this appears to be.Flag

Name: Andrew Delaney on Oct 15, 2012Comments: Save our Music Services! To systematically dismantle the high quality instrumental teaching offered to the children of the Wakefield area would be a very sad indictment of Wakefield Council policy. It is a proven fact of how important involvement in music making is to our young people and how it can impact so positively in all aspects of their lives.Flag
