Name: Janette Smithson on Oct 13, 2012Comments: The Peripatetic Music Teachers are an asset to the children of wakefield who will suffer if the teachers leave because of the lower salaries they are expected to survive on. To downgrade the very experienced teachers is an insult to them and i'm sure it will force many to find alternative employment which will upset a lot of children who have built a good rapport with the them. My daughter has indicated she will not carry on with wms lessons should her teacher leave but would like to do private lessons instead. Think about it how much money will the council lose if everyone thinks like this!Flag

Name: Sarah Bancroft on Oct 13, 2012Comments: I learned to play the violin via the music service at Wakefield. I am now a head of music in a large secondary school. This was down to the professionalism of the music staff, the fact that they needed to have QTS ensured quality of provision as peripatetic teachers have to maintain the same standards as any other teacher. I would not have an unqualified instrumental teacher working in my school as I could not guarantee that professional standards would be maintained. Financial gain in this instance would lead to poorer provision and opportunities for young people.Flag

They have helped my children learn aspects of music that they could not get at school or in private lessons. It is wrong to take away an element of our children's education which is so outstanding!Flag
