As many of you know, speeding and reckless driving has always been an issue in Wakefield Plantation. Many neighbors have expressed concern regarding speeding throughout our neighborhood so I spoke with Raleigh City Council and the City of Raleigh Traffic Control to determine how we can best resolve this issue. They indicated that if there was enough concern from residents, they would consider installing speed humps at all crosswalks on major roads (including Wakefield Pines Drive, Wakefield Plantation Drive and Kelway) and children at play signage throughout the individual neighborhoods. Please note that there is a difference between speed humps and speed bumps which is outlined below.
If you feel that this is a concern in your area, please consider signing this petition. I truly appreciate your support and sincerely hope that taking action will help prevent any future tragedies. We have too many children, pedestrians and bikers at risk so please take a moment to make our neighborhood safer. Thank you in advance for your support.
Sincerely,
Neely Lassiter

PREFERRED SPEED HUMPS VS. SPEED BUMPS:
SPEED HUMPS are used for the same purpose as speed bumps, but are designed to be driven over at speeds of up to 20 mph without having to stop or slow down. Unlike speed bumps, which are intended to make drivers stop abruptly, speed humps are designed to encourage a gradual stop and/or remind drivers to obey the speed limit. Speed humps are primarily used in residential areas, as opposed to commercial areas and parking lots. Pavement markings will lead up to the speed humps similar to the ones in the Heritage neighborhood.
SPEED BUMPS tend to be larger and made of higher impact materials, such as concrete or asphalt. They may also be painted orange or yellow for visibility purposes, and may be accompanied by plastic cones. Street speed bumps are designed to cause drivers to slow down significantly in order to go over them safely, serving as a reminder to drivers to watch their speed and making it impossible to speed through the areas in which speed bumps have been placed. Therefore, these types of speed bumps can pose a problem for emergency vehicles.
