To Whom it May Concern:
We, the undersigned, are former and current coaches, players, volunteers and parents involved in Vienna Youth Inc., Girls Lacrosse. It has come to our attention that the current leadership of Vienna Girls Lacrosse has, for reasons unknown to us and of deep concern, removed Jeff Frederick as 2013 Head Coach of the VYI Girls 3/4A lacrosse team. In the spirit of fairness and in upholding the values represented by VYI, we respectfully ask the Board of Directors of VYI, Inc. to investigate and remedy this situation.
As you are well aware, the backbone of the VYI organization is its’ strong core of active, dedicated, volunteers. As it relates to girls lacrosse, there is NO ONE who has put forth more time, effort, and energy throughout the past 10 years than Jeff Frederick. Those of us who have coached alongside Jeff, had a daughter play on his team, or worked in an administrative capacity with Jeff continue to be impressed by his integrity, enthusiasm for and knowledge about girls lacrosse, and welfare for our girls.
In recent years, Jeff, along with other dedicated Girls Lax parent volunteers, have built the Vienna Girls Lax program into a much more coordinated and organized program, which has become the envy of most Girls programs in the Northern Virginia Youth Lacrosse League. VYI Girls Lacrosse has dramatically improved its’ product, and today delivers a better youth athletic experience for our daughters than ever. The program is on par with the best VYI has to offer, in large measure to the selfless and tireless efforts of Jeff Frederick. Jeff is VYI Girls Lacrosse biggest promoter, the “face” of Vienna Girls Lax, and has been a positive role model for countless young ladies in our community.
The good news regarding VYI Girls Lacrosse is that we now have a number of new, talented, knowledgeable volunteers involved in various capacities of the program. As these newcomers have been integrated into the program, something went awry regarding 2013 coaching assignments as Jeff, the 3/4A team Head Coach in 2012, has evidently been displaced as the 3/4A team Head Coach for 2013. Without fueling the local rumor mill, or casting aspersions on the VYI Girls Lax management team, we believe the board should examine what transpired and inform us accordingly. We trust any misunderstanding about coaching assignments has been done unintentionally, and are aware of the long-standing VYI practice that incumbent coaches are given the right of first refusal to return to their team, absent removal for a legitimate reason or cause.
While we have other dedicated coaches at the 3/4 level for the upcoming Spring season, we are at a loss to explain why the individual most singularly responsible for the success of the program during the last 10 years has been treated in this manner, and request that the Board update us on how this issue will be resolved. Jeff Frederick deserves to be the VYI Girls Lax 3/4A team Head Coach for 2013!
