As members of the Virginia Tech community, we are attempting to direct the Virginia Tech bookstore’s attention to the opportunity to source apparel from Alta Gracia, a factory that demonstrates a commitment to respect workers’ rights, pay a living wage, and make quality products at competitive prices. We call on the bookstore to honor Virginia Tech’s standing policy commitment to source Virginia Tech-logo merchandise from suppliers that respect workers’ rights.
We have called on the VT Bookstores to place a substantial order with Alta Gracia this spring. They have agreed that they "will do everything possible to review the [AG] program and bring the product into the store by December".
We call now on the Virginia Tech and Hokie Nation to pledge to support this effort by buying VT-branded merchandise from the Alta Gracia order and by promoting others, including your organization, to support this effort through direct purchase support or through spreading the word about our efforts to bring an ethically branded line into the Virginia Tech bookstores.
Hokies, sign below to show your support for our state VT policy of sourcing merchandise from those who pay a living wage.
