Alexandria City Council is not above the law.

The petition

The Alexandria City Council is not above the Code Law of Virginia. As elected officials they must adhere to laws of the state, clever loopholes are a complete and total abuse of power.

Their proposed text amendment 2007-0003 Smoke Free Restaurants is a blatant abuse of power. The regulation itself states that: "under current Virginia law the City is prohibited from adopting a direct ban on all smoking in restaurants and bars".

No one is above the law, not even elected officials.

We urge the City Council to vote down Text Amendment 2007-003 because it is illegal. The tax payers should not pay for lawsuits that surely will follow should this ordinance be passed.
