Voting is one of the most basic and important inalienable rights available to a citizen. As recent events in the Ukraine have shown, when a nation loses trust in its election process, the entire social fabric breaks down. It is important that citizens of the United States of America have complete confidence in the integrity of the voting process.
As Information Technology Professionals, we are keenly aware of the risks of using computer-based technology for the gathering of votes. Day in and day out, we fight a war against viruses and hackers in our systems. We know that our information infrastructure is never completely secure. That is why we, as signers of this petition, request that all computerized voting machines be required to provide receipts. These receipts will be used in re-counts and audits to provide continued assurances of voting integrity throughout this great country of ours. |
