Petition to the 2008 Presidential Candidates:

We the undersigned independent-minded voters, want to change our political process so that our elected officials act in the interests of the American people, not the political parties nor the special interests that control them.

We recognize that despite the vast increase in voter participation this year, and the enormous momentum for profound political change, business as usual will continue in Washington unless we have a clear plan to reform our electoral process.

Therefore, we urge you to publicly support the following political reforms:

1. Non-partisan redistricting (an end to gerrymandering!) to stop politicians of both parties from drawing non-competitive district lines.

2. Extending open primaries from 31 states to all 50, allowing independent, non-aligned voters to vote in the first round of voting.

3. Removing obstacles to voter registration by permitting Election Day Voter Registration, online registration and other reforms to increase voter participation, particularly among young Americans.

Sincerely,

2202 JayGarthHuntingtonTXI am deeply concerned about issues concerning the Big Pharma's lobbying special interests and am watching closely as to whether you will sign this pledge and hold yourself to it . The way I will decide whom to vote for will be determined by your response to matters such as this in which we are petitioning you now.
2203 AdrianneAllenHonoluluHIAs representatives of the people, I hope you will have the conscience to do what is right.

2212 AndrewCellaMontgomery CityMOThe time is long past for our politicians to live up to their oath of office and represent the people and not the special interests which is mainly big business, How can congress justify their existence by their do nothing conduct. I was not put on this earth to serve government, Government was established to serve me and not become my master. The next time you look in the mirrow, ask yourself what you see. Are you proud of your record?

2222 GaryMadduxFarmersvilleTXI'd also like to see foreign aid to Muslin countries stopped. Raise food prices to Opec countries and pull out of the U.N. Get control of immagration and bring industries back to the U.S. Stop the "Globalization" of America and once again be independant of foreign countries.
2223 LesliBairNew HavenINStop protecting the profits of insurance companies. Do what is right for the many, many Americans who are uninsured or underinsured. Don't let the words "socialized medicine" scare you, or for Mr. McCain, stop using that phrase as a scare tactic. Do we use the phrase "socialized road repairs"? No. Clinton was ahead of her time.
