THE COMMUNITY’S OF SPA-6
PETITION ABSTRACT
TO: Elected Officials; Health Advocates; and Community Stakeholders
The undersigned individuals, community based organizations and concerned citizens, hold the perspective that there exist greater need for community representation and involvement by planning officials in the restitution of health services for South Central Los Angeles. We have the conviction that:
Priority should be given to the established MLK hospital mission; “to provide quality comprehensive medical care that is accessible, acceptable and adaptable to the need of the community.”
Without transparency and obligatory community involvement in the process there will be no success. A collective effort appears indicated for success.
The Board of Supervisors and the Department of Health Services must be guided by Service Planning Area-6 (SPA-6) community representatives in their efforts to restore the health enterprise; because the failure of MLK/Drew Hospital, and later MLK-Harbor hospital to successfully pass CMS, and JACHO surveys were due to unbridled County leadership.
The community’s current lack access of quality health services is wholly due to systemic failures of Los Angeles County. Present efforts are all but certain not to provide the clinical and education services the area desires and needs. Therefore, an alternative leadership, in the planning process and beyond is advocated, and encouraged.
