Dear Senators of the US Senate Select Committee on Intelligence:
On several occasions both Adriana Pérez, the wife of Gerardo Hernández, and Olga Salanueva, the wife of René González, have been denied visas on the grounds of section 212 (f), whereby the President may suspend the entry into the United States territory of any alien if he finds that such entry would be detrimental to the interest of national security. President Bush has done so disregarding our constitution, (Amendment VIII . . . nor cruel and unusual punishment inflicted.), and international law, (the rules pertaining to the treatment of prisoners of the American Human Rights Convention and Article 10 of the Convention on the rights of the child).
This falls under your jurisdiction: “ /. . ./ the Select Committee on Intelligence shall make every effort to assure that the appropriate departments and agencies of the United States provide informed and timely intelligence necessary for the executive and legislative branches to make sound decisions affecting the security and vital interests of the Nation. It is further the purpose of this resolution to provide vigilant legislative oversight over the intelligence activities of the United States to assure that such activities are in conformity with the Constitution and laws of the United States.”
So I ask of you “to oversee and make continuing studies of the intelligence activities and programs of the United States Government, and to submit to the Senate appropriate proposals for legislation and report to the Senate concerning such intelligence activities and programs.”, particularly in regards to the visas for Adriana Pérez and Olga Salanueva. Violations of prisoners rights are a violation of the constitution and a violation of standards that are necessary in upholding a democracy.
President Bush has not made “sound decisions affecting the security and vital interests of the Nation” nor have sound decisions been made during his watch concerning the visas of Adriana Pérez and Olga Salanueva.
