Hunting on Saturdays and Sundays are typically the only days many hunters are able to get into the woods. The Sunday hunting ban is targeted at the general hunting population, with exceptions given for special groups, namely the Virginia Hunting Dog Alliance (VHDA) which is allowed Sunday hunting. This group has actively fought efforts to repeal the Sunday hunting ban, which does not effect them, as they can, and do, hunt on Sundays. The VHDA can legally chase raccoons, bears, and foxes on Sundays - leading to the assumption that they simply don't want anyone else in the woods on Sunday. At a time when hunter recruitment is getting harder, it is our duty to pass hunting down to younger generations. 1 day a week makes is very difficult to do that. Hunters pay for their license - that revenue is used to maintain the hunting woods for everyone, at any time. Not just a special group. This issue will come before the VA General Assembly again, and with the help of the general hunting community, we can end this ban. It is our right as citizens, hunters, and members of our community. Sunday hunting should not be limited to one group of people because of their lobbying interest.
