A PETITION TO OUR ELECTED REPRESENTATIVES FROM THE CITIZENS OF THE COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA In view of the recent regrettable unconstitutional passage of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) by the United States Congress and signed by President Obama, we the undersigned hereby present the following items of redress to our elected officials of The Commonwealth of Virginia concerning House Bill 1160 and its offsetting legislation protecting the freedom of Virginia citizens: HB1160: Unlawful detention of United States citizens.  Prevents any agency, political subdivision, employee, or member of the military of Virginia from assisting an agency of the armed forces of the United States in the conduct of the investigation, prosecution, or detention of a United States citizen in violation of the United States Constitution, Constitution of Virginia, or any Virginia law or regulation.

1. Request the immediate signing of Virginia House Bill 1160 by Governor McDonnell.

2. Request that members of both houses of Congress support HR3785 - a bill which would repeal Section 1021 AND 1022* of the NDAA. * All persons arrested and detained according to the provisions of section 1021, including those detained on U.S. soil, whether detained indefinitely or not, are required to be held by the United States Armed Forces. The law affords the option to have U.S. citizens detained by the armed forces but this requirement does not extend to them, as with foreign persons. Lawful resident aliens may or may not be required to be detained by the Armed Forces, "on the basis of conduct taking place within the United States.
