Evan DerkaczNYMr. Goode does damage to the American notion of religious diversity, followers of Islam, and, perhaps most of all, to Christians.

Dwight L. ChapmanWAIt is people such as Rep. Goode and others who preach hatred of anyone different than them that are causing much of the troubles in the world. We are all individuals and should be respected with dignity and not hate. We need to celebrate our diveristy as well as our similarities. We are all children of our Creator no matter what name we give to that spirit.

Todd SlaterNJIt's shocking that this kind of intolerance exists in any American today, let alone a United States Congressman. At the very least it serves as a wake-up call to all of us. Hopefully Rep. Goode will soon see the error of his ways, but I won't hold my breath.

AnonymousIDI am always so surprised when we don't retain hard fought lessons, one generation to the next. If we don't speak now, who will speak up for us when it is our time to be hunted.

Andrea CanoORRep. Goode should read the history of the formation of this democratic country, and influential thinkers and church leaders of those early years, John Locke, Horace Bushnell, Jonathan Edwards, among others regarding religious freedom and praxis.
Carol Lynn KentCAFor shame Mr. Goode.... it seems to me that the greatest threat to our constitution AND to our American way of life is NOT the various religions and faiths that people of this country practice, but rather the BIGOTRY and FEAR that some people (such as yourself) would seek to play upon. It bigotry and fear that tears at the very fabric of our country, our values and yes, our constitution! For shame Mr. Goode - you who have sworn to up hold the constitution of the United States would be so public in its attempt to rip it asunder! Shame on you Mr. Goode, you should resign your office as it appears that you are no longer capable of upholding and defending the constitution with honor.

William CordisTNHaving personally visited a mosque in my local area I urge you, Rep. Goode, to do the same. The pricinpal of religious freedom is fundamental to the idea of the United States and we need leaders who uphold and practice it.
Lorna FalkensteinMr. Goode might also keep in mind that nowhere in our Constitution does it require legislators or leaders to swear upon any book or bible when taking the oath of office and that it is purely up to the individual whether or not he wishes to do so. In order to set our Constitution before the belief systems of any within the private religious establishments of America and the highly faithful of any denomination it should be necessary that all of our legislators remind themselves of the decent and fair establishment of the Separation clause within the Constitution. It is within the very First Ammendment that our forefathers realized the greatness of our society should be framed with respect to private rights to worship as one sees fit. This is exactly the most powerful message that our nation was founded on and is the driving force behind our precious and fragile democracy in America. Lose this one principle and we are no different than war torn sectarian nations ruled by dogma and typranny. To always keep these precepts in mind is by far more powerful than creating further division or animosity in governance. Religion today in our country is simply being utilized as nothing more than a highly divisive method of procuring political capital and in my honest opinion must be seen for what it has become in this respect before the fires of intolerance swallow those who use their religion to spread hate and fear. This hurts us all in the long run.

Michael O. ChristensenVAI am saddened that Rep. Goode would stand where he does as a Virginian. Despite past mistakes, many of them, Virginia is the home of liberty, not intimidation.
