PETITION FROM RESIDENTS OF THE RIVIERA HOMEOWNERS ASSOCIATION AREA TO THE TORRANCE CITY COUNCIL FOR A VIEW RESTORATION AND PRESERVATION ORDINANCE

Started January, 2012

The Riviera Homeowners Association area consists of many hillside homes which have city and/or ocean views. The passage of time has allowed trees and foliage planted on some residents’ properties to grow tall. Sometimes, they block the views of their neighbors. Other cities in our area (Rancho Palos Verdes and Rolling Hills Estates) have view preservation and restoration ordinances to help residents resolve view infringement issues. We request that the Torrance City Council ask City staff to consider ordinances adopted by other cities and draft a view restoration and preservation ordinance to apply to the Hillside Overlay District in the Riviera Homeowners Association area and that the City Council consider adopting such an ordinance as soon as possible.

Respectfully,

The Undersigned Residents of Riviera Homeowners Association Area

Updates

March 11, 2012

The momentum behind our request for a view restoration ordinance continues to build within the community. This level of interest confirms the urgency many of you feel regarding the preservation of our neighborhood landscape.

My view has been completely obscured by the neighbors trees over the last 5 years. It is ridiculous that we pay for these properties just to stare at leaves.
