To: The City of Kitchener, Ontario, Canada 

We, the undersigned, feel that the City of Kitchener must make Victoria Park a priority. 

An Environmental Assessment confirmed that Victoria Park Lake is contaminated with sediment and toxic sludge and that it needs extensive remedial work to address these ongoing issues. Alternative options, including reconfiguring the Lake, removing sediment and addressing upstream issues, were identified by the Environmental Assessment.  

We feel that, although actions to implement the Victoria Park Lake Improvements Project will be costly, it must be made a priority because of Victoria Park’s importance to the community as a central and well utilized park.  

We ask that council direct City Staff to look further into this issue, to search for any and all possible grant opportunities, to consider alternative creative options to secure funding for the project.  

We understand that currently the City has no plans to implement any changes to the lake and is not planning to do so until after 2019.
