As much as I'd rather call this a "Protective Service for those employed to perform as Security Personnel"... It just doesn't have the same resonance of instant understanding as "The Union for SecurityPersonnelof Australia".
There are over 150,000 licensed Security Personel in Victoria alone, with no "industry specific" governing body to protect Human Beings from unsafe working conditions, underpaid roles of major resposibility and Standard Operating Procedures with too much grey area.
The Security Industry is continually growing and basic human needs and rights need to be protected. Why is it ok for Human Beings who perform the roles of Electrician, Plumber, Carpenter, Labourer have the ability and the right to join a specific union that will look after and protect their rights and a Security Guard does not?
Yes, we can join the Miscellaneous Union but honestly with roles that assume (at times) great responsibilty and risk why would we join a union that doesn't truly understand the industry.
Basic human rights in the workplace need to be monitored and protected, whether you are a Wharfie, Electrician or Security Guard.
