Name: Anthony Carmine De Bellis Jr on Apr 16, 2010Comments: not allowing outside tables in that area is outrageous! These companies are trying to return this area to a location that will draw people and revitalize the whole area. What kind of town planning does the council ascribe to?Flag

Name: Graham Lee on Apr 19, 2010Comments: As a local resident and business operator I cannot understand why external seating is not allowed in Regent Street - which is pedestrianised! Surely it will make a bland public space far more interesting and appealing to have a more continental cafe style street scene.Flag

Name: Shirley Dignam on May 1, 2010Comments: As a resident in Knutsford I feel so sad that Regent Street is in my view a disaster, Today, May Day, people were sitting on the shops steps eating and drinking. How much nicer if people could enjoy sitting outside at tables and chairs,as happens at other venues in the town.I should be very pleased to know why the council object to this. With so many empty premises in the town, I would have thought that they would love to see these occupied, ie Starbucks, if only to raise more taxes.Flag

Name: Chris Verrecchia on May 5, 2010Comments: once again our elected representatives have devolved decision making to local authority employees to make decisions that are detrimental to our quality of life. Our views and wishes are being ignored by individuals who do not trully represent us. I am happy to sign this petition to bring life to regent street.Flag

Name: Lucinda Clark on May 6, 2010Comments: I am horrified by the Council's attitude. Via Via should be commended on the great efforts they have taken to engage local people. As a Knutsford resident I would fully support an outside seating area. The Council should encourage more businesses to adopt the approach taken by Via via especially in these difficult times.Flag

Name: Mrs Janet Horrocks And Mrs Elsie Dixon on May 20, 2010Comments: We fully support your idea to put tables outside your premises. It may breathe a bit of life into an area which is already dying. It would create a bit more interest and atmosphere and people looking up from the bottom street or down from the top street would be able to see you were there. This would also encourage people to look at the few remaining shops! What are the objections? Why have some eating establishment had tables outside? Perhaps some people will only be happy when Knutsford has become a ghost town!Flag

Name: Jane Mather on May 27, 2010Comments: I agree with the comments above and think that businesses in Knutsford need to be given a chance to thrive withourt being constrained by rules which make little sense. Regent Street could be a vibrant location bringing people into the Town instead of being quiet and under used. Jane MatherFlag

Name: Isabel Abbott on May 31, 2010Comments: It is so refreshing to visit a traditional town rather than an out of town shopping mall full of the same old shops. What a shame that small town businesses are struggling against this bureaucracy. We have so little good weather, so why can't we take advantage and sit outside on the few sunny days?Flag

Name: Erica Goggins on Jun 6, 2010Comments: I fully support Marco and the team at Via Via in their quest to keep their outside seating. Starbucks have already gone and I see no reason for not having tables. Outside seating brings a much needed boost to the street and is also a godsend for mums with prams/pushchairs.Flag

Name: Jane Brodie on Jun 10, 2010Comments: Regent Street has so much potential to be the 'heart' of Knutsford. There is no outside sitting in Knutsford and Regent Street would be the perfect venue os sunny days. It may also encourage artists and musicains to perform there and encourage consumer spending - and therefore helping local business. I really feel it is such a missed opportunity and could really bring Knutsford alive and attract more people in.Flag

Name: Chloe Stamper on Jun 19, 2010Comments: Knutsford is an area that should be aloud to thrive on independent shops and restrauants, the 'critical mass' formula is the only formula that will work at this present time in a small town. People come to Knutsford for it's choice of antique shops, gift shops and eateries. A cosmopolitan feel is essential; we do not need anymore empty shops.Flag

Name: Chris O'Brien on Jun 28, 2010Comments: Whole heartedly agree - there is plenty of space to have tables on the pavement without interfering with people walking down the street. Via Via offers really good quality food and service and we don't want to lose them. People drinking and smoking on the pavements on King St is a much greater issue and doesn't seem to be addressed. Come on Council - help small businesses and help breathe some life into Princess StFlag

Name: Joanne Whitby on Jul 6, 2010Comments: I totally support this petition and as a resident of Knutsford I am disappointed by the lack of atmosphere on this road and so I am bewildered to hear that these businesses (some of them independent) are not even allowed to put tables/A boards outside to encourage business. I feel sorry for these business owners. Surely the council have something more productive to focus on?Flag

Name: Mark Lee-Kilgariff on Jul 6, 2010Comments: As a Knutsford resident, I feel that Regent Street is potential unfulfilled. Via Via, if freed up of regulations, would be able to bring much needed character to the street and add that sense of european life that the town strives to achieve. Please consider their arguments with a more open mind.Flag

Name: Susie Lee-Kilgariff on Jul 6, 2010Comments: I can't agree with Marco enough. I do not want my council tax being spent on council bureaucracy which creates unneccessary difficulties for Via Via and other shops on Regent Street. It is dead at night, and is crying out for some outside tables. The A boards are not a problem at all and are the least they should be allowed to do to grab passing trade. The council has not done the right things to make the Regent Street development work, evidenced by the long standing empty restaurant which should have been Heathcotes and the now empty Starbucks shop. Via Via is a truly great local restaurant and deserves more support than this. They have shown so much initiative in trying to drive custom eg Italian lessons, special wine tasting evenings but can't do it all on their own. At least as customers, we can do our bit by visiting often and avoiding the chains.Flag

Name: Helen Wither on Jul 15, 2010Comments: Regent's Street looks very run down and abandoned since Starbucks vacated their large shop area. It will be difficult to attract new retailers and to keep the existing ones if such stringent rules are being applied. It's such a shame for the place to be devoid of atmosphere when so much has obviously been spent on creating the physical space of Regent's Street. Shame we can't have a more European, cafe feel to it and encourage the community to meet and integrate there. The pavements on King Street and Princess Street are very narrow and this is the only major pedestrianised area where we could create a lively street atmosphere.Flag

Name: Barry Mills on Aug 1, 2010Comments: I use many Knutsford eateries and completely support Via VIa in the request to position tables outside and thus ecourage the cafe culture that is badly needed to combat the otherwise agressive Yob culture that can be seen in many other Knutsford establishments.Flag

Name: Michael Joseph Coleman on Aug 12, 2010Comments: I am a resident on Regent Street. I welcome the outside seating. It adds a vibrant atmosphere to the street, and promotes business and trade on what is still a very new commercial area of the town, which needs promoting. The residential units are well insulated and glazed, meaning that even in the busiest times of the year (such as May Fair) if you close your windows you do not hear any noice (not that any of the residents do, as the main reason to move to the centre of town is to be among the hustle and bustle). All of the commercial units on the street are up and coming shops, which have invested heavily in their own busineesses. Starbucks has since moved from the street, and I fear other businesses will follow suit. It is very disappointing that in a conservative constituency private enterprise is not allowed the opportunity to develop and promote commerce in the town, especially during a time of economic hardship when we should all be doing our best to promote business and expenditure. This needs to be addressed, and urgently. As a final point there are very few cafes / restaurants in the area with outdoor seating. Via Via and Starbucks offered a point of difference, and a service hard to find in the town. Denying this is denying the townspeople and visitors to the area an area to sit outside and take in the surroundings - look at Alderley Edge and almost all of the cafes and restaurants have outdoor facilities.Flag

Name: Rosemary Quaye on Aug 12, 2010Comments: i think regent street has the potential to be a busy and thriving street, if these silly rules and regulations were scrapped. people should be allowed to sit outside and relax with a drink, it is bound to attract more custom for restaurants and shops alike.Flag

Name: Neil Bryers on Aug 24, 2010Comments: I think the tables outside Via Via and the tables that were outside Starbucks make the place look more inviting, interesting and cosmopolitan. Removing A boards and these tables removes atmosphere - where's the fun in that?! The council need to open their eyes and ears and re-write their pointless rule-book on this one!!! Name: Claire Bryers on Aug 25, 2010Comments: ViaVia is a breath of fresh air for knutsford and it is such a shame that the business is not being supported! The shareholders have put in so much effort and are always so welcoming when we visit viavia. There are v limited places to sit outside and have coffee or eat in knutsford and this is such a prime position with little traffic. Let viavia fulfil its potential before we lose it!!Flag
