Two new Veterans' Homes  remain empty due to "lack of funding" according to the Secretary of the California Department of Veterans Affairs.

The state of California has constructed and now maintains two new veterans homes, one in Fresno and one in Redding.  Currently, skeleton staff keep the lights on, the air conditioning/heating running, keep the landscaping fresh, etc. costing $320,000 per month.  But the buildings remain empty even though 100's of veterans have appled to move in.  They are told they need to apply to the six homes in Southern California, away from family and friends.  There are no other homes in Northern California.

I am a veteran and I find this situation tragic,  With your help we can tell Sacramento they need to make this issue a priority and solve the problem!!

All I ask is that you sign this petition to Peter James Gravett, Secretary of the Department of Verterans Affairs for the State of California, (916) 653-2158, Peter.Gravett@calvet.ca.gov.

Let us let him know that we want him to persuade the governor to change funding priorities and/or modify other department budgets to fix this issue.

A recent KNBC San Francisco news report highlitghted this issue; see more at the link below.
