Attempting to justify HB 116, Beattie made a few errors and raised a few question. He said he supported this because 71% of Utahns favor it. That is a recent poll, 3 years ago the Chamber was proposing legalize the illegal, so it is NOT a new idea to them. Check the Chamber website or ufire.net Salt lake Chamber page.
He also said that most illegals are paying taxes - where does he get that information. The legislative review note for Robles SB 60 indicated that it would create an additiona; $81 million from new taxes - inconsistency.
He also talk about SB 81 (and hinted at SB 251) Everify. The problem is there is NO enforcement, no penalty. The Majority of the "leaders" appear to be ignoring the law.

Well, several supporters of Utah citizens in their quest to enforce immigration law and attempt to apply the principle of ATTRITION through ENFORCEMENT had an appointment with Gov. Herbert today.
They planned to provide him with and additional 3000 plus signatures. The governor felt that was NOT important. Apparently, it was more important to cater to more powerful influences, e.g. the Salt Lake Chamber of Commerce, the Sutherland Institute and various churches proclaiming compassion, compassion, family, family, $$$$$$, $$$$$$, cheap labor, ad nauseum.

The vaunted Utah Compact which is being used to promote "legalizing the illegal" aka AMNESTY has about 4,000 signatures.
