Charles BoienLet's not forget that one of items EVERY service man received during WWII was a zippo lighter and cigarettes!

Matt ChristieIt is still Legal -and many states and the national government also rely on the huge taxes that are collected by smokers. Why not leave it up to each business to allow smoking. Maybe the states can charge a licenseing fee ($100 or less) to allow smoking and this would raise money instead of losing money. What a concept.
Michael E. WaltonI am a member of Springfield American Legion Post 32 and a non smoker. This issue should be an individual choice not the government. Veteran Post should have the right to decide if they want to allow smoking.

David HermannI am a Long time Member of Sons Of the American Legion, Post 690, Palatine, IL. The smoking ban started (for Us) on Jan 2nd, 2007, and it has hurt us BIG TIME. We are no longer able to support many of our Community Programs, indeed, we are worried about our Survival as a Post ... Please tell Politicians and Zealots to STOP meddling in the affairs of our GREAT Veterans Organizations ...
Kenneth JohnsonMany of our post members are WWII veterans and our post is their only social spot. Now, they feel like they cannot come down because they cannot smoke. Give them back this one simple pleasure.

Raymond L. WayneI agree very much with this petition, we protected their rights, now they are taking them away.
Billie BrantI'm a member of the Ladies Auxillary Post 88 in Mattoon Illinois. My late husband Toby Brant who passed away in 2004, was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 88, as well as a lifetime member of the Charleston VFW which is in his hometown. He was a decorated 100% combat veteran of the Vietnam War, having lost both legs in service to his country. Although he gave up smoking more than two years before he died, he did not believe in this smoking ban especially when it involved private clubs and ESPECIALLY clubs for veterans. We had discussed this issue before his untimely death because we could see nation wide it was coming. My thought is at the VERY LEAST it ought to be left up to the memberships of the clubs such as the American Legion, VFW and other private organizations to decide on the smoking issue. Thank you for supporting this effort. Billie Brant, Charleston, Illinois
John PayneThese people have earned the right to smoke, as VETERANS in their VETERANS club! Who are you to tell them they cannot smoke in THEIR club?! Stop acting in your own self-interests and instead act out of respect for our veterans and allow them the choice to smoke or not.

Robert E. GrahamAs Commander of American Legion Post 365, I speak for the great majority of our 620 members. We feel that our state government has slapped our veterans in the face by taking away another one of our personal freedoms. When elections are held, we will look hard at those polititions who took away one our freedoms and also at those who did nothing to try protecting veterans rights. It is time we stood together as the powerful group that we have been and can be again. Lets show our legislators the power of the veterans vote.
