Name: SFC Michael J. Milihram USAR on Sep 21, 2010Comments: As a 22 year Army Veteran and a social studies and history teacher, I am as appalled by the proposal for a casino within sight or walking distance of one of this Nation's most hallowed grounds as I am to the proposed Islamic Center ANYWHERE in NYC!! I think this is the highest example of money ruling people's minds instead of rational common sense. There is no excuse or reason which anyone could use to validate putting an establishment such as this anywhere within 10 miles of the main Gettysburg Battlefield. If a 307 foot tower was not deemed appropriate for this sacred ground where so many Americans died to settle the issue of States Rights, then why would a casino be more appropriate?Flag

It is a National Historic Site that should not be taken advantage of via politics, greed and the almighty dollar. Allowing it would be the ultimate insult to the memory of our ancestors and every veteran today.Flag

If you must have a casino, put it far from these historic and hallowed lands.Flag

No other Civil War battlefield has so epitomized the ideals that President Abraham Lincoln espoused, and thousands of veterans sacrificed their lives for. As distinguished historian Shelby Foote said, the Civil War made this country what is is today. Gettysburg is the very embodiment of that sentiment. I respectfully request that you honor the sacrifices of those brave Americans and heed the voices of all those who call for a rejection of this application. Respectfully,Flag

Name: Ronald S. Berry on Sep 22, 2010Comments: I am a disabled, wartime veteran. Please, do not allow our " hallowed ground" to be desecrated, by a gambling casino. I personally do not think it a good place to gamble. R.E. Lee gambled there, on a July 3rd, and lost the majority of Picketts Division. I am not anti-gaming, but would you want to build one at the Alamo also? How about Bunker Hill ?Flag
