Currently Veterans Day is a federal holiday, which in practice means that federal and postal workers get a paid holiday. This excludes many veterans working in the private sector, with the exception of Iowa, which requires that veterans get the holiday off. Currently only 21% of employers in the US provide Veterans Day as a holiday. It seems inappropriate for federal and postal workers who may not have served the country in uniform to have a holiday for veterans as a paid holiday, when so many veterans do not get this day off in the private sector. This petition is to petition the US Congress recognize the service of veterans, and create a law providing this day off as a paid holiday for US Veterans.
