Comments: This situation needs to be addressed. It is unfair on its very face. The agencies involved should have considered the ramifications of poor planning. the extended benefits will hurt more than it helps. If this is not the case I can be contacted easily.

Comments: Since The City bore the brunt the brunt of the 9/11 attacks, it seems like common sense that it be the most generous to it's citizen soldiers. Especially those who defend the City on a daily basis and then defend the nation in the Global War on Terror.

Comments: Governor Pataki and the NY State legislature unanimously voted in the Patriot Plan for state employees. This show of support and gratitude to members called to Active Duty for defending our Country should be reflected by NYC. A city that we defend and protect on a daily basis in our civilian capacity. No matter what uniform we are wearing, we are always looking out for NYC. It is time for NYC to look out for us!!

Comments: I am a New York City Correction Officer, a municipal city employee. I am also a soldier who was given the opportunity to defend this nation. I was activated on three separate occasions and two of the three times I was placed into harms way. I was deployed to Afghanistan, Kuwait, and Iraq. I Thank GOD I made it home alive! I am hoping to continue living a normal life without experiencing any symptoms of post traumatic stress disorder from these deployments. At this time it is important to inform our local government officials who run our city to know that many of us left our families to fight the war on global terrorism without even thinking about the potential dangers or consequences inherent within such military service. Some of us soldiers made it back alive, but others lost their lives. Still others who survived the stress of combat nonetheless lost their marriages and families due to the burdens placed upon them by military deployments. A soldier’s life will never be the same after being deployed. Regardless of individual circumstances, however, we are soldiers who are prepared to give our lives and pay the ultimate sacrifice for our nation. Article I of the Army Code of Conduct demands that from us: “I am an American, fighting in the forces which guard my country and our way of life. I am prepared to give my life in their defense.” The citizen-soldiers who work for the City of New York choose to give their lives and sacrifice their families in their defense of our nation. The City of New York has displayed its own support and patriotism toward city workers and our families by supporting us while we fight the war on global terrorism. The City of New York has allowed us to continue working for the city and collect our pay while being deployed. Now, however, the City of New York is demanding that we soldiers pay back not only the money received for wages, but also the taxes taken out of our pay. Is this a fair policy for the soldiers who have sacrificed so much for our country and the City of New York Perhaps the local government officials who run the City of New York don’t realize that we, as soldiers, have dedicated ourselves to protecting the fundamental principles and freedoms which made this country strong and free. Article IV of the Army Code of Conduct embraces the sentiment of such service: “I will never forget that I am an American, fighting for freedom, responsible for my actions, and dedicated to the principles which made my country free. I will trust in my God”. I want to let the local government officials who run the City of New York to know that the people they supported are American fighting men and women who fight for the protection of our fundamental freedoms in this country. They are the soldiers who are fighting the battles in Afghanistan, Iraq and around the world to preserve our way of life and that of our children. As soldiers, we are engaged in fighting the most malevolent forces of our time. As citizen-soldiers working for both the City of New York and the United States in the war on terrorism, we should not be asked by the City of New York to sacrifice still further. The City of New York should rethink its policy of demanding from its workers and soldiers the repayment of income taxes collected from the money the city loaned to us. In the case that they city is planning to collect the military wages, the city should rethink its policy on demanding Military pay benefits such as combat pay, Basic Allowance for Housing (BAH) and Family Separation Allowance. These army benefits are tax free and should not be considered in the repayment of the loan given by the City of New York to us while conducting military duty. Jorge L. Brito

Comments: By all rights they the City of New York should not even be looking for this money. As we served in the Military to protect the freedom of people of the U.S. and the citizens of New York City during a time of war.The only money that they should be requsting, is the monthly base salary that is on the Leave Earning Statement. And if any payments are to paid it should paid back on a monthly basis over a specific period of time. I also think that we should bring this problem to the media and the people of the U.S. and show how they treat members of the military. Who have put their life on the line to protect their freedom and way of life. Only in America do we bite the hand that feeds us. Mr. President can you hear us!

Comments: NYC and others should have informed their service people of this possibility at the time. Other options may have been available to them. Now the city and others in this predicament should step up and say "Thank you" instead of "Give it back"!

Comments: I was activated for 2 years and this payback is without a doubt makes NYC the Scrooge for this Cristmas. Shame on them and their blinded greed in trying to get money back from men and women who have answered the call for duty with honor only to be stabbed in the back by City we swore to protect and defend.
