Comments: I am a veteran who would be affected by the elimination of the Psych care facility at the Leavenworth VA. It is important for people to recognize that the Leavenworth VA takes care of the psych needs of the active duty military at Fort Leavenworth too. With troops deployed around the globe, incl. the ones fighting the war on terrorism, there will be a demand for psych care for returning soldiers and the veterans. We need our Leavenworth Psych staff who know patients' histories as well as having patients having access to their limited availability (as it is) of group and indiv therapy (that inpatients have both as an inpatient and outpatient). You see the VA putting money into renovations (new paint, wallpaper, new construction etc.) at the Leavenworth VA, but still the talk about curtailing psych services. How about spending some of that money providing the essential psych care at the Leavenworth VA instead of shucking veterans off to Topeka or Kansas City!!

Comments: I resent the VA trying to shut down the Leavenworth VA's Psychiatric Unit. It has decreased in the number of available beds over the past few years, from an entire floor to 15 beds. This service has been important to my mother's mental health. I am a member of the Army Reserve, and see this as just another erosion of the benefits afforded to veterans of the Armed Forces. Geez, it's so nice to feel appreciated for our sacrifices by all the cuts in services.

Comments: I know the Leavenworth VA Psychiatric Facility takes excellent care of someone important to me and my son, especially with the care she has sought before going to the VA for help. To eliminate the inpatient side would be harmmful to her and the other veterans that use that unit on top of the staff that would lose their jobs or have to relocate and is just stabbing veterans, soldiers and the staff in the back for all their hard work. They need more services, NOT LESS.

Comments: I AM THE WIFE OF, CLARENCE BERGMAN,, WHO IS A VETERAN,,AND HE VERY MUCH NEEDS, THE CAMPUS IN - PATIENT PSYCHIATRIC UNIT. MY HUSBAND, NEEDS REACHABLE ACCESS FOR THIS HEALTH CARE,, WE NEED TO KEEP IT HERE IN LEAVENWORTH, KS.Also,,we need to think of all the staff, here in leavenworth, ks. who might loose there jobs due to a transfer,, and some people may have to relocate, which would mean leaving some family members here in leavenworth,ks. Plus ,i am disabled, and i cannot drive the long distance,,to see that my husband gets his health care,,he so desperately needs. So, many men , and women,,who are veterans in need of the health services need these services to stay right here in leavenworth, ks. Some veterans have problems traveling the long distances, to get health care,,i think they have served our country , and served it well,,when they were called on to do so,,and they deserve to be served as well.No one knows what these men , and women must have went through, while serving they"re country, they served for us,, now i think someone needs to help them,, by keeping the campus in - patient psychiatric unit right here in leavenworth, ks. Sincerly,Thanking you,, Mrs.Clarence Bergman .

Comments: I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU ARE EVEN CONSIDERING MOVING THE PSYC UNIT HERE AT LEAVENWORTH TO TOPEKA...THIS IS ONE OF THE MOST PROFESSIONAL AND CARING UNITS THAT I HAVE HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO BE ASSOCIATED WITH...I AM A VETERAN FROM KANSAS CITY, MO AND I'VE BEEN COMING TO THE PSYC UNIT HERE IN LEAVENWORTH FOR ABOUT 8 YEARS FOR TREATMENT OF MY ILLNESS...EVERY TIME I TURNB AROUND I'M HEARING ABOUT VA CUTS AND I THINK THIS WOULD BE A DISCUSTINGLY TERRIBLE THING TO DO TO MYSELF AND THOUSANDS OF OTHER VETERANS THAT COME TO THIS FACILITY...I VOTE NOT TO DO IT AND I REALLY HOPE WHOEVER MAKES THE DECISION TO DO THIS THINKS LONG AND HARD ABOUT THE THOUSANDS OF US THAT COME TO THIS FACILITY AND WHAT A GREAT NEGATIVE IMPACT IT WILL HAVE ON OUR WELL BEING...DON'T WE DESERVE THAT

You are essentially making treatment for EVERY VETERAN even more difficult than it is incompetent. For what it is it's all we've got, for Christ's sake... Can;t you leanve well enough, alone!

Comments: Don't you people realize that travel is difficult for Veteran's with PTSD. Most of them don't receive treatment because they don't want to be away from their home where they are the most comfortable. It is ridiculous to close down any PTSD Psych Centers!!! In fact MORE should be opened!!! Easier access would make it possible for more Vets to get the treatment that they so desperately need!
