we actually did it, the state is finally changing the wic guidelines to include soy milk and tofu for vegan kids. im so incredibly proud of all 397 of you for pushing for this common sense change. lets keep an eye on the rollout to make sure it happens smoothly …
This petition is to get New York state to allow vegan families on the WIC program to obtain other options besides milk, cheese and eggs. We want to be able to receive soy milk and tofu instead with the written approval from our child's physician. Right now in New York State a child from a vegan family can not receive these vegan options unless the child has a milk or protein allergy.
New York State started the WIC program to ensure that children were getting proper nutrition, why not allow those families that have made the smart choice to feed their children vegan the chance to get what is best for them?
The policy makers will not change unless we get enough people to stand up and say we want something new.
WIC should support vegan families and add non-dairy options to choose from. Especially under their slogan of providing "healthy and nutritious food"

Hopefully for WIC all over the US. I live in Oregon and I want to do the best thing for my baby. So we've switched to vegan and WIC doesn't support that...

As a nurse for 32 years, a family nurse practitioner for 20 years and a vegan for 15 years, I know that infants and children can thrive on a vegan diet. Please make soy formula and tofu available to anyone who wants it.

I hate how cows milk is meant to grow a baby calf into a huge cow, yet I am being forced to eat cheese and drink milk because I cannot let my wic checks go to waster and I am low income so every food item matters in my house!

Food offered should reflect all voluntary and involuntary diet choices of its clients.

It's ridiculous that alternatives to dairy products aren't available to WIC users. There ARE children and adults with allergies and digestive issues!!!!!
