Name: Christie Craigie-Carter on May 15, 2009Comments: Hospital administrators often say that VBAC bans are due to lack of 24 hour anesthesia coverage, but if a hospital is unsafe for a VBAC mom, then it is unsafe for any birthing woman who could have other, pregnancy complications, many of which are more likely than a uterine rupture in a VBAC labor.Flag

Name: Sarah Holt on May 15, 2009Comments: To force surgery on anyone as a matter of policy is simply and completely wrong. Especially so in the case of VBAC which carries relatively few risks, expectant mothers have the right to make an informed choice regarding their method of birth.Flag

Name: Alexis Yakle on May 16, 2009Comments: A woman has a right to choose medical options that suit both her family and birth plans. A VBAC is reasonably safe when compared another C-section. Your hospital’s choice to disallow VBACs is both discriminatory and unconscionable. I will never have a child in your hospital due to this choice, and I will encourage my friends, associates, and family members to do the same.Flag

Name: Ellen Bertke on May 16, 2009Comments: As a Nurse Manager and VBAC mom X2, any decision to deny this option has nothing to do with the wishes of the mom relative to her birth choices.. While the reasons for refusal are couched in "protetcion of the mom and baby",( complete with the worried facial expression) the real reasons are the protection and convenience of the hospital and medcial community. The irony of this is that your desire to "protect" us is , thereby forcing us into unnecessary surgery, is resultng in fewer hospital births .Women are no longer willing to tolerate the ongoing harrassment of the OBs and are choosing homebirths. Hospitals and losing money. If I had listened to my OB, I would have had a second unnecessary surgery ..Interestingly my small pelvis birthed two infants ,both larger with bigger heads than my CPD baby...Ellen Bertke , RN ..VBAC mom X2Flag

Name: Randi Cecchini on May 16, 2009Comments: I recently had a successful VBAC at home, because I did not want to be forced to have a c-section at the hospital. Women are going to find their own alternatives if they are not granted the freedom to birth how they choose!!Flag

Name: Mindy E Troge on May 23, 2009Comments: The idea that women can choose a cesarean, but cannot choose a VBAC is appalling. 10-15 years ago, VBACs were encouraged. They are no less safe now, provided that doctors are not giving the VBAC laboring mother pitocin or other uterine stimulant drugs.Flag
