111 Bruce ShepherdMy Sony vaio VGN-FZ21Z has now stopped working due to this common problem of the NVIDIA card collapsing. I get a blue screen when booting up, which states problem code 0x00000124. This problem is widely known in the sony laptop community and I am extremely disappointed that my laptop has now given in after only 2 years.
112 JaydeeOne more with the nvidia issue, blue screen, parallel stripes, just working in safe mode or with windows 7. if you disable the 8400m gt driver, no way to put it back. vaio fz18e, i guess all fzs are going down.
113 Bob LishmanI have a Sony All in One Desktop (which is really a laptop in disguise) which has a nVidia GM8400M grphics chip that failed today after 16 months ... 4 months out of warrenty. Windows will not start (BlueScreen) UNLESS I disable the gpu in Device Manager ... so I know its the GPU thats faulty. Sony SHOULD (like other manufactures) repair these machines within a reasonable time (that in the UK is described as 5 years, not 1) period of purchase.

122 BrettHi i have got a FZ21Z, have wrote on the VAIO forum about my problems, long story short, second time now the screen is running with lines and dots all over it with the desktop really enlarged. Dont always work properly in safe mode. And majority of the time it gets proper hot. Had this 15 months, 3 months out of warrenty.

132 Candice ContetNVIDIA® GeForce® 8400M GT failed in my Sony Vaio VGN-FZ290 after only 18 months of soft use. Still hoping Sony is going to cover the replacement of the defective chip. Currently in touch with their Customer Relations Department.
133 shaun hoffmanI have a Sony Vaio VGN-FZ180E with the Nvidia 8400m GT and the display no longer functions correctly. It is a problem with the GPU and not the display/monitor. From what I have read and researched I seem to be having the same problem as many other users of this particular series of Nvidia cards. A faulty design incapable of handling the heat produced seems to be the culprit. I even had a computer tech. open the computer and look at it and he said that the Nvidia chip (built into the motherboard) has risen and needed to be soldered again. I find this highly unacceptable that a computer that is only around 18 months old (from the time of the problem) is already in need to replacement. I have a Toshiba laptop that is over four years old and still works properly. I really hope Sony will do something about this because at this time I would never purchase a Sony product again.

143 AnonymousMy Sony Vaio VGN-FZ283BN is four months out of warrantee and suffers from a faulty NVidia GeForce 8400M GT. Even a standard VGA driver produces blue flickering stripes across much of the screen and blue screens. I have been told that I can pay for a diagnostic and any needed hardware by Sony, despite my attempts to point their attention to the Dell, HP, and Apple law suit.
