| 333 | Peter L Clark | Let us cut carbon and mercury and dioxin and organophospate (and other synthetic) pesticide emmisions. Let us find a way to live sustainably on Space Ship Earth. Earth has a way to recycle and renew and clean itself, but She can only go so far with what we give her. We must set the intention to find the sustainable cycles that we can live in and then manifest that change NOW! |

| 337 | Elizabeth Leodler | I am a young woman, recently graduated from college and trying to make my way in the world. However, on top of all of my anxieties regarding my personal life, including finding a job and preparing for a family, I am left with added concerns about the state of the environment. It is no longer a far off possibility that in the future, the environment may become depleted. Instead, incontrovertible scientific evidence of serious environmental destruction abounds today. Now is the time to act, before it is completely too late. If we had started this process in the past, we would not be in such dire straits today.
From an economic perspective, pollution is a negative conditionality of much business activity. As a result, it should be taken into account as other costs are in financial accounting. Why should a cost that affects the entire world population receive no value whatsoever in calculations? The time where profit and big business rule the world should stop, we are destroying the only planet we have. I believe that if it is for survival, citizens will be willing to pay slightly higher prices. Although the ideal solution would be to pass the cost onto the corporations causing pollution themselves. And some corporations have taking the lead in helping save the environment including General Electric and Duke Power. If all corporations do business this way, they can compete with each other in a fair and environmentally friendly atmosphere. Perhaps this sounds like a naieve dream, but why not do our best to make this a reality?
Senator Sanders (I-VT) and Senator Boxer (D-CA) introduced the Global Warming Pollution Reduction Act of 2007, calling for cuts to carbon emissions and other gases that are heating up the planet to temperatures never before experienced. Glaciers are melting, animals are dying, people are suffering. Now is the time to act!! I will watch how you vote and hope that you will take into account the next generation of young leaders who will not allow environmental complacency to continue as we are the ones, along with our children, who will face a much lower standard of living or even extinction in our lifetimes.
Vote to cut carbon emissions by 80% by 2050! |

| 341 | Emily DeVillers | Leading scientists say the world has to cut emissions by 80% by 2050 in order to avoid the worst affects of climate change. As a 21 year old, by 2050 I will be reaching retirement age, how old will your children or grandchildren be? Do it for them, do it for future generations. You were given a beautiful world to grow up and live in, give the same gift to future Americans. |
