We, the undersigned, wish to express our opposition to the proposed time trial progression system set to be implemented at the 2013 USRowing Youth National Championship regatta. It is our wish that the traditional heats-reps-semis-finals progression be retained and that any issues or problems arising from that system be openly aired and discussed with the broader junior coaching community with an eye toward correcting them at future regattas. We believe that the proposed time trial system was hastily conceived, poorly thought out and is fraught with potential for regatta-altering problems, including, but not limited to, issues arising from changes in weather, land, dock and water traffic, timing accuracy, mid-race equipment problems or athlete error, as well as athlete safety and fairness. We also object to the deviation from the well-established and published USRowing Rules of Rowing. This progression system has not been run at this venue under any circumstances prior to the upcoming Youth National Championship and we object to the 2013 YNC being used as a test case for its viability.
