Name: Peter Hope on Dec 21, 2010Comments: This needs to be publicly discussed as this decision also hughly affects the the local communities in which it resides and the whole northeast england community. Communities which in the past have played an integral part of the colleges 202 year success.Flag

Name: Anonymous on Dec 21, 2010Comments: Ushaw has been, and continues to be, vital to the life of the Catholic Church here in the Northern Province and Shrewsbury Diocese. What of the magnificent St Cuthbert's Chapel, the Big library and the facilities readily available to all, including the vital links with Durham University, including the Department of Catholic Studies. It is at the heart of a vast history in the life of the Catholic church in this country - the land of Aidan, Bede, Cuthbert, Benet Biscop, the monks of Durham, Finchale, Fountains, Rievaulx, Whitby and many more. With no Seminary now in Scotland, what a great opportunity for the Bishops of England and Wales to be innovative and work more closely with their Scottish brothers. Soon no priestly formation from John o'Groats to Oscott in Birmingham! Surely more consultation is needed. Let us pray for this in our daily prayers.Flag

Name: Kenneth Ibbs on Dec 21, 2010Comments: We in the Diocese of Hexham & Newcastle need to see detailed annual accounts, in particular relating to the disbursement of the Priests' Training Fund and the folly of purchasing land and erecting new buildings for a Youth Village so close to the Ushaw Estate. Many of us have no faith in the ability of the diocesan clergy to choose competent advisers and officials - historically, many have been ex-Ushaw and drawn from the "magic circles" of V.11 enthusiastsFlag

Name: John Oliver on Dec 21, 2010Comments: Generations of Catholics had to sacrifice and strive to set up and maintain places like Ushaw, therefore it is a shame to close down this important college. The trustees could, and should, put thought and effort into keeping this historic college open for yet more generations of seminarians.Flag

I was bowled over completely when I first stayed there over 2 years ago. Please don't rush into anything because when it's gone - it's gone. We all need to get praying hard for what God wants with this place which was dedicated to His service.Flag
