The petition


WHEREAS USC played the first football game at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum ("the Coliseum") on October 6, 1923; and

WHEREAS for the past 84 years USC has been a loyal tenant of the Coliseum; and

WHEREAS the Coliseum was home to the NFL Raiders (1982-1994), and Rams (1946-1979); and

WHEREAS the Coliseum has hosted two Olympics, the World Series, the World Cup, and numerous cultural events; and

WHEREAS the Coliseum has failed to secure an NFL tenant since the departure of the Raiders; and

WHEREAS the Coliseum requires substantial renovations for guest enjoyment and safety; and

WHEREAS the vitality of the Coliseum as a world-class athletic venue is dependant upon these renovations; and

WHEREAS the University of Southern California has offered to spend $100 million in renovations to the Coliseum over ten years.

THEREFORE be it resolved that we, as signatories of this petition and supporters of the grand traditions of the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum and University of Southern California Football, hereby encourage the Coliseum Commission to enter into a master lease agreement with the University of Southern California whereby:

1) USC will become the master tenant of the Coliseum; and
2) USC will spend at least $100 million on upgrades and improvements to the structure; and
3) USC will allow the Coliseum Commission to hold community events in the stadium; and
4) USC Football will continue its longstanding tradition of playing football in South Los Angeles for the indefinite future.
