It's 2013, and being in the second largest cycling region in the United States, it is upsetting to see Elite Women's categories being eliminated and Women's Category 5 races non-existent. As a beginner rider who is eager to start racing, I find it incredibly intimidating to have to race with Cat 1-3 riders. For my safety, and the safety of those much more skilled, it makes sense to have a Category 5 division for women, where we can have the opportunity to learn, develop and grow. A rider can learn a lot from other riders when racing in the pack, but if you're not at the skill level to remain in the back, how are you going to learn, and more importantly, not get in the way? We are petitioning to have a Women's Category 5 division created to help encourage more women to join USA Cycling and race competitively. Please shoe your support and help create a safe and run racing experience for all.
