The petition

On Monday, February 5, the Students' Association Government and Rochester Center Community Leadership kicked off a pilot newspaper program across campus that offered free newspapers to all University of Rochester undergraduates. The newspapers included the New York Times, the Rochester Democrat & Chronicle, and USA Today. On Friday, March 2, the month-long pilot program ended. Currently, serious conversations are being conducted regarding the institution of a permanent newspaper program (of similar or different variety) and new initiatives to access global news from other media sources.

By signing this petition, you are declaring your support for the use of student funds (which come from the annual student activities fee) to increase student access to media and news, and you believe that providing free newspapers is one such method of doing so.

The Senate is the legislative branch of the SA government and is made up of eighteen elected senators and two primary officers: the Speaker and Deputy Speaker. The Speaker and Deputy Speaker, along with the SA President and Vice President, lobby the university administration on behalf of the students, in order to bring issues to the attention of the administration and get them resolved. The Senate meets every Monday at 9:00pm in the Gowen Room of Wilson Commons.

If you have any questions or concerns about the petition, please contact Eric Sansky at esansky@mail.rochester.edu, or speak with any of the SA Senators.
