Comments: Urban archery is necessary for the health of deer in Durham City Limits; deer density in Durham is estimated at 50-80 deer per square mile leading to destruction of natural habitat and increased deer-car collisions.

Comments: This is a safety concern both for the deer, and for the local people. A responsible thing to do, is to hunt them.

Comments: Larger cities, like Durham, Raleigh, Charlotte, Greensboro, Winston-Salem, etc., need to adopt the urban archery season and bowhunting when legal throughout the year. New regulations allow people to shoot any animal that is damaging their property at any time even without a depredation permit. Cities that prohibit bowhunting are creating wildlife sanctuaries that lead to over-population and subsequent property damage and spread of diseases carried by deer born parasites. Bowhunting is SAFE too! Just in case people are concerned about damage from shooting a deer, Regular NCBA membership carries a $100,000 hunter liability insurance policy with it that will cover any damage done by a deer shot by any hunter, even if it is a gun hunter. check us out at www.ncbowhunter.com

Comments: A U.A.S. is the safest & most effective way to control deer overpopulation within city limits. Most bow & arrow shots are 10-40 yards max, therefore eliminating mis-identification & accidents. I see the results of deer/vehicle collisions almost daily in Charlotte city limits on the I-485 beltway & high traffic roads. Hopefully, if Durham officials approve the U.A.S., other progressively minded NC city officials will follow suit when & where the need arises.

Comments: This is a great program, all you have to do is look around you to see that there is nothing green in the woods below the 6 foot line cause the deer have ate it all. They are wonderfull to look at but they cannot control themselves and bowhunting is the safest most efficent way to deal with them.

Comments: I sincerely believe that an Urban archery season would be beneficial to the community as a whole. It would cut down on deer/vehicle collisions and the destruction of property/flower gardens. If implemented correctly and with proper oversight it will benefit the entire community.
