As discussed on our new online radio show, Kollmer and the Beard, I am an alumnus and loyal supporter of FGCU. I started at FGCU in 2001 and attended for five years. I recently moved back to Estero full time and live less than a mile from the University. I purchased basketball season tickets in 2012 and joined the Eagles Club at the $1,000 Varsity Level. I eat, breathe and sleep FGCU. However, this past week at the Tax Collector Office, while obtaining Florida tags for the first time since 2006, I was extremely disappointed in the FGCU plate. It is the same plate that existed prior to my arrival at FGCU twelve years ago. I began looking around Southwest Florida and realized no one utilizes this plate. In fact, a few years ago we were in danger of losing it from the State. FGCU has grown at an unbelievable rate; it doesn't even look or feel like the same school that existed years ago. Athletics is on the national stage, gaining more fans daily. Why then with all the other positive changes do we still only have the option of an outdated and boring license plate? I almost passed on the FGCU plate, which is put to shame by all other sports teams, universities and organizations; how many students, alums and local residents have passed as well? FGCU is missing out on this opportunity to build on its amazing success and raise additional revenue. Let's change that. Let's get a plate that represents the current FGCU; the FGCU located in Dunk City. If all other school's plates use the athletic logo, then we should too. People should want to choose the FGCU plate when registering their car, especially the students. At this point, there is no reason for them to. Please join me in asking FGCU and the State of Florida to allow us to get an updated metal license plate.
