Comments: I am studying social work at University of Reading. I chose this university as I am a mother of 3, living and working in the Reading area. I have worked in the social care field for 17 years It would not have been possible for me to study anywhere else as I needed to be able to balance my work/home/study time so that nothing was sacrified. Closing the school of health and social care will deny lots of other mature students like me the chance to go to uni.

Comments: I am very shocked and appalled that an institution such as reading, with a very high and well valued reputation, would close down a department such as health and social care, when people up and down the country will always be in need of health or social support. Also the closure of a course with a profession such as social work. Our country is always in crying need of good, qualified social workers and so social work will always be part of the future - I cannot see how it is not part of the vision

Comments: I have waited three years to start my degree at Reading in Social Work and i was ready to turn my ife around this year and do what has always been my ambition. It has taken alot of hard work to get to this point in my life studying struggling to bring up my two children alone and this news has turned my life upside down not knowing which direction to go in now. Reading was always my number one choice of university so much so that i never even considered others. I hope the person making these decisions reconsiders for the sake of the students and of course the community that would be affected by this as social workers are needed even more so today especially after recent news coverage.
