Working eight hour shifts in a level one psych facility is unsafe for the staff and most importantly the patients. The patients are not getting the adequate care, compassion, and attention they deserve with the staff because we are rushed to get meds out on time, three days a week nurses are pulled from the floor to treatment planning for a minimum of one hour, and nurses carry a case load of 12 sometimes more patients for one nurse! The acuity is only getting higher and we little staff to care for the patients how they deserve to be treated. Staff are getting burnt out on eight hour shifts five days a week, this leaves us only two and most of us one day off to recuperate. This is not fair for the staff nor the patients who should be the primary concerns.
