The petition

In October 2006 the UN Secretary-General's Study on Violence Against Children exposed the shocking reality of widespread violence against children and youth.

Violence against children and youth is never justifiable. It is a global crisis that calls for global attention. Children and youth are important to our future, and so everybody must place preventing violence against them amongst their highest priority.

The United Network of Young (UNOY) Peacebuilders is working on a global campaign to End Community Violence Against Children and Youth. UNOY Peacebuilders finds it imperative to address the recommendations to help prevent violence against children and youth in the community. It is a matter of urgency, and as such it is critical to

1. Prioritize raising awareness to break the silence around the problem of community violence
2. Strengthen the legal system to prohibit and prevent all actions of community violence
3. Ensure quality and accessible social services to provide assistance in cases of violence
4. Empower children and youth by encouraging them to establish programs on violence prevention
