Comments: Please do not disqualify a mokera for conformations standars as it is a naturally happening thing even in human babies at times. The fontenal closes with age. If you disqualify dogs under a year you will be diluting the pool of future champion dogs.

Comments: This is absurd We the people are changing the whole standard of the breed. I was under the idea we were to preserve the breed. in what other ways are we going to change this and other breeds that no longer look anything like what they did years ago

Comments: The molera is a hallmark of the breed. If the UKC thinks they are doing something to improve the health of the breed they are sadly misinformed. The molera is in no way related to the condition of hydrocephaly. Studies by veterinarians have proven this. All responsible breeders are interested in not only improving health of the breed but PRESERVING the characteristics that make the breed unique.

Comments: The breed has always, ALWAYS been known to have the "Probability" of a molera and this should not be a disqualification for the breed as it is a standard that has always been a part of the breed throughout it's long history, even before the AKC and UKC were formed.

Comments: I would like to know who at UKC s responsible for this sudden change of a charcteristic that effedts 95 percent of all of the chihuahuas. First off, UKC, are you goibg to giove the money back that you falsely took for regisering and showing Chihuahuas with a molera? Cause if you do not refund the money to your suddenly disqualified member's owners,Tthis could be a huge fraud case! Be advised! You can't do this to a breed it's not right!

Comments: I have had several chihuahuas in the top 10 in the AKC rankings. Sometimes they have a molera and sometimes not. I do not show in UKC. NOW I would not even consider it. We have enough issues without trying to breed a correct chihuahua without an open molera. You might rethink this ruling.

Comments: I wish to try and comprehend why the UKC could suddenly deteriorate a breed standard by placing a disqualification on a trait which has always been there and does not pose a huge ghealth threat to the breed? Yes, extreme in any trait is not desireable, but to disqualify a dog based on this is unrealistic. It is wrong! Many chihuahua puppies will now not be eligible to show in UKC shows! How sad is this? Worse than this is the statement which was published by a well known author of breed type books, and who writes for Bloodlines, their breed magazine: and we quote: "The molera, or soft spot, at the top of the puppy’s skull often closes by the time the dog reaches maturity. This is not always the case, however, and obviously extra care must be given with any dog that retains this feature. Some veterinarians who are not familiar with the molera misdiagnose it as hydrocephalic (“water on the brain”). This is not so, and not only does the standard of the breed allow for the molera, it was once considered a requirement. A Chihuahua can have a molera and be a happy healthy companion for its entire life." Please tell me how such a decision could be made without consulting breeders who have seniority in the breed?
