Recently the Office of Subsistence Management ruled that hunting on federal controlled land in Unit 23 for Western Arctic Caribou would only be allowed for local subsistence hunters.

Data by ADF&G has shown that non subsistence users are responsible for harvesting only 500 caribou out of an approximate 10,000 animal harvest. There is no justification to exclude non local hunters from participating in this hunt when the harvest by non subsistence hunters is so low.
