ONE UNION-ONE EQUAL RAISE FOR ALL MEMBERS!

It has been brought to the attention of the Culinary employees at the MGM Mirage hotels, through the MGM Mirage contract summary, that monies allocated to the Culinary employees by the Culinary Union, being provided by the employer by contract, are, in fact, to be allocated to the employees in an unfair, unjust and unethical manner, pending contract endorsement.

More specifically, it is the concern of the tipped employees as to why monies provided by the employer, per each hour worked by a Culinary employee, to be totaled at an increase of $3.47 over the next five years, are, in fact, to be split unevenly between Culinary workers.

It is believed that the first year alone, sixty-six cents additional is provided per hour, by employer, per employee. Why then are the non-tipped employees to receive sixty-three cents extra per hour while the tipped employees receive thirty cents extra per hour in wage? It is clear that thirty-six cents is being taken from the tipped employees and given to the non-tipped employees! THIS IS UNFAIR!

The tipped employees demand evenly dispersed money in BENEFITS and WAGES! If the non-tipped employees should have a raise, put it in the contract and take the money from the appropriate hands; NOT out of the hands of the thousands of hard-working, seemed-to-be-forgotten tipped employees of the MGM Mirage Corporation!!!

How will the money continue to be allocated over the next four years?

1) 80% compared to 20% raise IS NOT FAIR! This year alone, .63 cent raise for non-tipped employees compared to a .30 cent raise for tipped employees!? We just recently learned, the same unfair distribution will last throughout the five year contract!

2) Every Union team member pays the same amount of dues every month!

3) Non-tipped employees scale wages are already larger then any tipped employee for that reason alone!

4) No person or company (Culinary Union) has the right to decide where an individual's raise goes! MGM/Mirage agreed to a .66 cent raise for all culinary employees! Why are we only getting .30 cents? We are all the same team members!

5) Should part of tipped employee’s wage increase go to cover a non-tipped employee’s benefits? NO!

6) Some non-tipped employees make some tips and do not have to report them to the IRS!

(Subject Line) Culinary’s unbalanced & unfair wage distribution

Here is what is written in the new 5 year contract:

1. LENGTH OF CONTRACT
Five (5) years. Starts June 1, 2007 and expires May 31, 2012

2. WAGES AND BENEFITS MONEY
MGM Mirage has agreed to the largest wage plus benefit increase in the history of the Culinary Workers Union and Bartenders Union. There will be a total of $3.47 per hour in new money over the five (5) year contract. This money will enable us to protect our health and welfare plan. You will not have to pay out of your paychecks for you coverage nor your family's coverage.

ALSO, WE ARE RECOMMENDING A WAGE DIFFERENTIAL FOR TIPPED AND NON-TIPPED. OUR TIPPED EMPLOYEES ARE THE HIGHEST PAID IN THE COUNTRY AND WE FEEL SOME EXTRA MONEY TO THE NON-TIPPED IS ESSENTIAL.

June 1, 2007:
13 cents-in additional per hour benefits.
Non-tipped employees would receive - 63 cents per hour increase!

Tipped employees and banquet servers (those employees classified under the IRS tip compliance system)- 30 cents per hour increase.

For each of the remaining four 4 years, the Union will decide how the new Employer money will be divided. Health and Welfare will come first. We may decide as a Union to put some additional money into pensions, training, legal defense, and housing also. We expect enough money to be available for a good wage increase each year.

Total New Employer Money
June 1, 2007..66 cents per hour
June 1, 2008..67 cents per hour
June 1, 2009..69 cents per hour
June 1, 2010..69 cents per hour
June 1, 2011..76 cents per hour

Here is where we think our money is going:

MGM/Mirage agreed to a .66 raise for the 1st year for all culinary employees.

Minus 13 cents for our benefits, we are paying 10 cents for one union member's benefits, plus another 13 cents for a second union member. That's 23 cents taken out of every tipped employee to pay for two non-tipped employee's benefits!

This is how they, the Union, came up with the 80% vs 20% raise since tipped employees are out numbered a little under three to one!
