Name: Donna Yavorshak on Mar 11, 2004State: ILCountry: USComments: I whole heartedly agree that these "child support" laws are very unfair. I have been married nine years to a man that has paid child support since 1992 and the child just turned 18 in Nov. of 2003 In Sept. of 2003 we were taken back into court for an increase in child support and of course it was granted. Now we receive a letter from the child's mother's lawyer that since he is 18 and has not graduated from high school and will not till after he turns 19, she is requesting that"if we can agree that child support continue as it is now ordered and review the matter again later in dec. of 2004 to see if your son has graduated. Does it ever end I am a woman and I have seen these laws being abused and using the term"dead beat dads", well what about the women out there that use the child support for "things other than for the child" What about the father that faithfully pays child support and also has to supply medical, pharmaceutical, hospitalization, dental and optical The child support laws have always been "for" the woman isn't this a form of discrimination "fed up in Illinois"Flag

Name: Donna Yavorshak on Mar 11, 2004State: ILCountry: USComments: Amen! I have been saying for years that there should be a system of accountability to where the child support money is being used on the child. It grips me to know that the woman that my husband and I pay child support to takes cruises, goes to tanning spas and has a fairly new car and never worked a day in her life till almost a year ago and she is over 40.I am a woman, and I as a woman can see how these laws are very unfair and should really be changed.Flag

Name: Cory Schaubs on Mar 12, 2004State: GACountry: USComments: I totally agree. I don't have a problem paying child support. I do however have a problem with the huge amount I'm required to pay. The law needs to take into consideration both parents gross income. I pay 1,200 a month and I'm nearing bankruptcy!Flag

Name: Suzi Conner on Mar 16, 2004State: TNCountry: USComments: Right on! My finance's ex-wife takes her extra weekly 'paycheck' to get her hair and nails done regularly; she uses it to pay for concerts with her newest boyfriend, or when she needs a upgraded cell phone or the newest palm-pilot. She has a college degree that she REFUSES to use--it's simply easier for her to work a menial job while my fiance helps to continue to pay her way. Their one child consistently comes to us from her home on her "days" in clothing two sizes too small and frequently dirty-- he complains of her not allowing him to brush his teeth or to bathe regularly! She received her home as a "gift" from a family member & has no rent or mortgage to pay-- her phone bill isn't even in her name! And all this while we struggle to pay bills and slip deeper in to debt, because he 'owes' her money for a child that she has only two- to- three nights per week (she frequently 'drops' the child off at my fiance's parents- the child's grandparents- home when she doesn't feel like caring for the child, on "her" nights), and for only 2 24-hour periods, to his 4 - 5 nights per week and countless early pick-ups, vacations and TLC. I am a woman standing up for men in this battle-- there are so many good men out there who have to pay for what the bad ones do. NOTHING is done on a 'case - by - case' basis for men in divorce / custody settlement, expecially when support is an issue. Men who have to pay support, only to have it go toward the ex who sucks it all up and spends little on the deserving child! Women receiving support shoudl regularly have to show what the support is for, and how it benefits the child!Flag

Name: Steven Johnson on Mar 18, 2004State: PACountry: USComments: I live in Mass, but my kids live in PA. I pay child support regularly. I wish I knew that the money I send every month went to my kids. Se sends them to me for my monthly visits looking like a welfare case. She is remarried, she quit her job, she lives in a $400,000 2,500+ sqft home and drives a 2003 $28K car. She wants more money in shild support. I know that they will take her prior income into account, but still...she lives better than I do, and those annual trips to the carribean are sooooo expensive, as are the twice yearly trips to Vegas. I want full accounting of every penny I send my children.Flag

Name: Mark Moushegian on Mar 20, 2004State: MICountry: USComments: I am in total agreement with this petition. I have unfortunately been burdened with having to pay $900 a month child support plus 90% child insurance to a women who had forced me to be involved in something I had no intention of wanting. The child was born out of wedlock. The woman and I had no intentions of having a future together. We had discussed abortion and adoption procedures considering the future of this child was at stake. She decided to keep the child and did not care about what the outcome would be. She is unemployed has no insurance and has been evicted from her apartment. She has been harassing me to pay for her expenses because she was going to have our baby. She has filed with the state for support for herself and her child. I told her this was going to be a burden for all parties involved but she got selfish and said this child has given her a new lease on life and she was going to make me responsible for the finances for this child. She new the state would enforce this and there was no way out of it for me. I have no emotional ties to this women and as far as I am concerned I am not the father of this child because I had no say from the start as to what should happen to this child. I was only an unwilling sperm donor. this women has taken my rights and is milking the system and me. It seems I am put in the category of being the husband of this bitch which she and I both new was not my intention from the start. She and I were acquaintances and casual sex was something we had on occasional basis. Because of this women's selfish act I have an 18 year financial sentence and also there will be another messed up child brought in to the world raised by a selfish irresponsible parasite. This is the biggest mistake a man can ever make.Flag

Name: James Carter on Aug 13, 2004State: NCCountry: USComments: It is time this unfair system be stopped. I would like to know info on how to get a grassroots movement begun in My area. I work for the State as A Community College photograper. My wife is an accountant. The month I started paying She got a $10,000.00 raise and loaned over $2,000.00 to a girlfriend of Hers so that She could finish Her school for the fall semester. I have even been sent a delinquency notice threatening Me with Jail time and taking away My license when I had already paid through the State, rather than the County system, as ordered by the judge. What idiot came up with the idea that the wife Should have no accountability I resent Her getting custody simply because She is female. She also got most of what I owned in the settlement because I did not want to go through all the trial stuff. The lawyers would have walked away with it anyway. Something MUST be done for this grossly unfair system nationwide. I am ready to carry a sign if I have to. Would like to organize a protest.Flag

Name: James Carter on Aug 13, 2004State: NCCountry: USComments: Oh yes, I forgot, not only did My wife get a 10,000.00 raise the first month, which is a good percent of My total salary, and not only did She loan, $2,000 dollars to Her friend right away, but they now take 30 percent of My NET income leaving Me with 1,290 a month to live on. It could have been more, but they allowed Me an extra 100.00 for medical bills each month. Which reminds Me, I also have to pay half of those for the child as well and My wife argued to have this go until She was 21. I told Her that it was just tax free salary for Her and She knew it. She is already getting 1,000.00 a month from Her prior Husband for his 3 children. I feel that She is legally stealing from Me and the system treats Me as the bad guy automatically. I have no respect for the system any longer. Justice is spelled out by How much money you have for a lawyer.Flag

Name: Heather Toney on Aug 20, 2004State: MICountry: USComments: I agree with everything you said, but just so you know they are not just doing it to men, I am a mom who pays support and they are doing it to me as well. I have had some bad luck with jobs in the past, I've got a good job now, although it only pays $8 per hour. I am paying my support to my ex-husband who makes $25 per hour. Two days ago I was ordered to pay $4000.00 with in 2 weeks or go to jail for 93 days. I can't beleive that amount of money nor can I beleive they want to send me to jail, do they really think my employer is going to hold my job for me for 3 months In addition, my weekly support was just changed from $172 per week to $150.00 per week more than half my check. They don't care about how I'm suppose to live, and let me tell ya, I'm not exactly living the high life. I can't continue like this, I love my 2 kids more than life, however I'm begining to think it may be best to sign away my rights.Flag

Name: Greg Brown on Aug 26, 2004State: CACountry: USComments: I have paid child support for 16 years (50% of my income and still falling behind), my youngest child has been 18 for over 4 months and not in school since she was 15 (her Mother has not made her go). Now that the order has stopped (not the garnishment though because I am behind in payments due to 50% of my income is not enough to cover the order and I have not missed a payment) it would appear that my daughter has enrolled in school somewhere out of state, they won't tell me, so the supoport will continue and I continue to fall behind. I will soon be forced out of transportation to get to work. I drive a 15 year old car and I was told that it won't pass smog next time and I do not have the money to fix it. I am to the point that they can put me in jail. Which would be just as well 'cause I will probably be homeless soon after I can no longer get transportation to my job. My story is much longer than this but this is where I currently sit.Flag

Name: J C on Sep 28, 2004State: TXCountry: USComments: I agree that the person paying child support should have some type of receipt or some way to account for the monies spent on the CHILD. Many women are living off of the child support and still asking the other parent to help pay for extracurricular activities and other necessary items. How much money does a child really need at a certain age I think custodial parents should have to show the courts what is needed on a monthly basis or at least show what the money was spent on. Many women (some of my single parent friends included) decide to take the father to court out of rage, or when they hear he is making more money, married or bought a new house or car. It is unfair to the paying parent and what is the custodial parent beinging in to match child support of the CHILD.Flag
