The Petition

'Undershaw' the former home of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, creator of Sherlock Holmes and spiritualist's greatest ambassador is under threat from the property developers who wish to develop the house which stands in the heart of the Surrey countryside in the middle of National Trust land.

The Undershaw Preservation Trust and many supporters worldwide would like to see this historical house restored to it's former glory and opened to the public as a museum and tea rooms welcoming visitors worldwide.

A planning application has now been registered with the Council to convert Undershaw to 3 town houses with a further 5 in the gardens. This petition is to object to private residential dwellings and to prevent 'Undershaw' from being split up and for public access to be retained to the house and gardens.  We desperately need your help, please visit our blog to find out how you can help us support this valuable cause http://undershawhelp.blogspot.com or visit our website at www.saveundershaw.com

You can also help by writing to the Corporate Services and Planning Department, The Burys, Godalming, Surrey, GU7 1HR quoting the application reference number, which is WA/2010/0172 & 0173.

A meeting is planned for 12th May 2010, 10 days before Conan Doyle's 151st anniversary of his birth date, when Waverley Borough Council will decide whether to keep our national landmark or allow Fossway Ltd to develop the site.

You may still be able to submit your comments electronically via a link from the application on the Waverley web site. www.waverley.gov.uk/planning
