Name: Jen Grogan on Aug 1, 2007Comments: I can't believe we actually have to petition this! I am so ashamed of this country and it's apathy - with everything to do with animal rights to hunting laws to dead baby seals. It makes me ashamed to be Canadian and a complete hypocrite for all the "good fights and peace" we're so proud of. what a joke.Flag

Name: Kristen DeMelt on Aug 1, 2007Comments: I live in Willow Beach. I know this problem first hand. I have tto neighbours who chain their dogs outside all day long. I hear one of the dogs chain banging around in te back yard and hear him wimpering to go inside with his family. I'm told he's a digger so I guess that's why he's chained up. All day and evening he is outside chained up. He seems so happy when evryone comes home from work then they give quick pat and go inside. Once and a while someone will come out and pat the dog but then go back inside the house. He never seems to get walks. It breaks my heart. He looks like such a sweet dog and would be active dog if he could move further than one small cirlce by his doghouse. Sometimes I'm so close to going over there to offer to walk him but there is no law against chaining or not walking your dog. I feel helpless sometimes. This petition is a great idea. I think it is cruel to isolate a pack animal in such a way. I hope something good comes out of this petition. I support it 100%. Thanks. KristenFlag

Name: Sharon Trusty on Aug 1, 2007Comments: The practise of chaining is cruel and needs to be stopped. Education regarding the anti-social consequences doesn't seem to be enough for some people so the laws need to be strengthened and include appropriate penalties. Maybe then they'll "get it."Flag

Name: Anonymous on Aug 1, 2007Comments: I remember from my childhood that my family used to chain our dogs & it was wrong then. Even if we wanted to be with the dog we couldn't because of possible injury from the chain (around our legs or neck etc.) I still miss my dog and regret every single minute that he was ever chained up. There is no reason for any dog to be chained up. If he is a runner, then build a pen - No Chains!!! S. LindFlag

Name: Jenny Gannon on Aug 2, 2007Comments: I feel that the chaining up of dogs is very unfair to both the animal and its owners. I say the dog because the dog is being prohibited from the experience of living life as a dog, i.e. being part of the pack whether it is with family members that are canine or humane. I say owners because by chaining up your dog you miss out on the benefits your dog can provide you. Chaining up your dog can lead to aggression issues and this is neither beneficial to the dog or the owner.Flag

Name: Anonymous on Aug 3, 2007Comments: It is so sad that we would even have to have a petition regarding such a dismal exsistance for far too many dogs. I wish people could see that once you bring a pet into your home they become family and should have many of the rights as you would give your children; a warm safe home, food, love and caring, and excercise as the minimum. In my opinion there isn't a question, this bylaw should be passed.Flag
