1 Jesse PorterPermanent chaining is cruel. We have no need in modern society for chained dogs or guard dogs. It's a poor excuse to abuse an animal who gives nothing but unconditional love. Ontario needs to update it's laws and welcome itself to the 21st Century.
2 Nicole SimoneI had no idea this was a problem until I saw stray dog after stray dog, embedded collars, logging chains wrapped tightly around the dogs necks, many who were starved. This is cruel and unnecessary - there should be laws governing this. These dogs are not lawn ornaments.

9 Linda HyattI have always felt that humans who chain dogs should themselves be chained. This is the next best thing - save these individuals from their own ignorance by passing this legislation.

11 Peter Irwin
12 Brenda TaylorI fully support the unchaining of all dogs in Ontario and across Canada.

14 Carin KelleyThe permanent chaining of dogs must end! This makes me so mad.
15 Jeffrey HolecWe have had first hand experience, on more than one occasion, of the effects of chaining on dogs; this should be outlawed.
16 Kerrie Lowitt
17 Marcela DonatoThe chaining of dogs should be illegal in Ontario. If people do not provide proper care for their pets, like refuge from extreme temperatures and socialization, they shouldn't have them. It is our responsibility to protect these animals.

21 Erin ChisholmI have two dogs of my own and I would never dream of treating them this way. This is so horrible.
22 Carolyn FlearThe practise of chaining a dog, or any animal, is one dating back to the dark ages when people thought of animals as possessions and did not think of the emotions they have. Pain, sadness, depresssion, and when treated with respect, happiness and contentment. If you want to make a dog vicious, just chain him/her up, and offer them a lifetime of torture. This practise should be banned and a law enforced, immediatly! I will not vote for any politician or party who is adverse to this change, or who hesitates about speaking out and voting to make the change.

41 Katherine HancockI encourage the government of Ontario to create new (or amended) legislation that would prohibit or control the use of tethers/chains to secure dogs for long periods of time. If owners are unable to humanely control their dog (indoors or outdoors) or are not willing to seek out external help (trainers, "doggy darecare", etc); they should not be found fit to own a dog, or any other pet, for that matter.

45 Heather JohnstonOur rescue, Dog Speed Rescue and Transport has a formerly chained dog in foster at this time. He is a wonderful 3 yr. old St. Bernard, Mastiff cross. 150 lbs and a little underweight. Big Boy is a gentle and sweet dog and has only ever known the end of a chain since he was a puppy. 3 years with no walks, no affection, no protection from the elements. This is unacceptable. He has just had his first vet visit in his life we are worried he may have heartworm. We are waiting with fingers crossed for his blood tests. He comes in the house and is so content to lay down at your feet and be petted, brushed and loved. He loves people and will make a wonderful friend for someone willing to give this big and deserving fella a home.

49 AnonymousWe have come a long way in terms of humane and ethical treatment of animals but we still have a long way to go. This petition is certainly a step in the right direction. Let's keep the momentum going!
