Name: Kevin Hsu on May 23, 2012Comments: As a graduate of a public university Ethnic Studies program (UCSD '04), and having double-majored in Political Science, I can say that Ethnic Studies courses--such as Asian American studies--are innovative, intensive, and some of the most intellectually rigorous and academically enlightening courses that any university student will undertake. The interdisciplinary nature is designed to challenge rote memorization and superficial theoretical understanding that often plagues other 'traditional' social science majors, and the relatively new field has shown tremendous influence in policy, art and culture, and American society in general in the three decades since its inception. UNC Charlotte would definitely benefit from an Asian American studies program.Flag
