Our UNC colleague, Mary Willingham, has been the target of death threats in retaliation for presenting the results of her research on the educational preparation and experiences of revenue athletes at UNC. The founding principles of our great university—light and liberty—are meaningless without an unwavering commitment to the safety of all members of the university community to express their views.So there can be no doubt about this commitment, as UNC faculty members we call upon Chancellor Folt to affirm immediately and unequivocally that threats of violence are abhorrent, unacceptable, and undermine the very foundations of this university.
