Name: Alex Mullin on Mar 17, 2013Comments: I am in support of the changes that are being petitioned. The food shouldn't be as expensive as is; students can't afford to pay the current pricing for the portions that they are serving. Nor should we have to tolerate certain food choices available with the market and industry that exists today, where we are more conscious of what goes into processed food products, how livestock are raised and certain health issues that prevent food choices (lactose intolerance, celiac, etc...). As well as being conscious of health risks like deathly allergic reactions.Flag

Name: Elissa Dow on Mar 20, 2013Comments: Being a vegetarian, I am already limited by what I can eat. Meal hall doesn't make things any easier. I have personally spoken to the manager of meal hall, and expressed my concerns. Nothing was changed. The yogurt still has gelatin in it and they still only serve veggie burgers and tofu as meat replacement. What about other simulated meats such as cold cuts and chicken burgers? We should have the right to be treated to good food, as well as everyone else. Simply taking meat out of a meal does not make it vegetarian-friendly. We need our protein, too. Aside from these things, there is one other major problem: the vegetarian options aren’t always properly labelled. More than once I’ve grabbed some food, only to find out there’s meat in it. One of these times the non-vegetarian option was purposely placed in the vegetarian section because “there was going to be a big crowd at lunch, and more room was needed for all the plates of food.” This is simply unacceptable. All I’m trying to say is that meal hall really needs to step it up a notch. I shouldn’t be punished for my beliefs of choosing not to eat meat.Flag
