Name: Anonymous on Sep 6, 2007Comments: If you are going to take away parking from us, we shouldn't still be having to pay $200. I live in the apartments, and when i have practice or a game at the gym, I have to walk back at night by myself. Can you give the apartments a few spots down by the gym so we don't have to walk a half hour before practices since we can't park in faculty spots!Flag

Name: Anonymous on Sep 18, 2007Comments: Even last year the parking sucked, but now it sucks even more! I'm not here on practically every weekend and I come back really really late on Sunday nights and the last thing I want to do is walk back from the parking deck, by myself all the way across the freakin' campus. At least last year I had more of a choice on where to park, but it still needs to be fixed.Flag

Name: Brittney Ellis on Sep 20, 2007Comments: As a freshman, all of the issues concerning the parking here have influenced me into thinking about not even bringing my car next year. All the upperclassmen talk about is getting tickets, and I would much rather leave my car at home, stick to riding the FRED, and be extremely limited as to when I can go into town rather than have to pay hundreds of dollars to park and even more in tickets! But perhaps that is the aim of the parking regulations, to influence students to leave their cars at home. As someone who lives five hours South of Fredericksburg, my parents are looking forward to me being able to drive myself home next year. It is a 10 hour round-trip journey just to pick me up, and then another 10 hour round-trip to bring me back. Also, having a car means that I can get a real job off-campus in places like Central Park, which is nearly impossible to go to during the week since the FRED only runs on the hour and stops operating at 7PM. Freshman year without a car is tolerable, but sometimes frustrating. I do not want to have to spend my next three years of residency on or off-campus at UMW not being able to drive to school and get around reasonably well. The money that is paid into parking stickers surely must go to a good cause since it is such a large amount, but that cause has yet to be seen. Planning is a big part of a student's academic life, so the administration should make planning a priority as well. If there is not enough parking, perhaps a new regulations should be discussed, or perhaps less students should be admitted to this university, as that is a certain solution to the problem.Flag
